"Nobody would panic about a hoax which they think can't possibly be real—and that is the point." I think this is the reason it was so successful. He tapped into people concerned about Google - it was just after the Gemini image generation story. As I saw many legit people on Twitter sharing this screenshot I also fell for it. Didn't know that shl0ms was spiritus movens behind this stunt, amazing performance. On Farcaster I noticed first reactions were skeptical and mostly people didn’t fall for it. Actually in the process I think shlOms accidentally doxed themselves, fc still being a small community. I think for a hoax like this to be really successful you need to have a huge audience with people clicking faster then they think. Like on Twitter ;) That's a great observation. I found this screenshot on Twitter (shared by a reputable 100k+ followers account), and when I submitted it to Farcaster, it got debunked in about 5 minutes. Seems like for hoax artists, social apps are the canvases they need to choose wisely :) Conceptually, I just loved this one. I laughed when I saw it on the timeline and also spread the misinformation. It was beautiful. I‘m happy because this reassures me that I‘m not crazy and that many others also feel cynical about the Google borg. This is just such an amazing piece of art. Underappreciated! | |
